This
page will cover local events of more significance than just typical rain/storm/snow events. Information here is more detailed than the information in the thunderstorms log. These logs are written in a variety of ways, they may include a mix of my personal account and information I have gathered from the web. Events are sorted by year first, then month then day. Enjoy!
Winter Events:
12/14/08:
Chicago experienced 2 seasons in one night. A powerful cold front comes
with a variety of precipitation and a fast temperature plunge. Written
in a story like form.
Spring Events:
Summer Events:
8/04/08: Tornado warned bow echo - A very intense bow echo slams the city with winds close to 90mph prompting tornado warnings. The storm complex also came with a ton of amazing lightning.
6/24/09:
A lake breeze causes severe storms to form, causing severe wind damage
across the area including a couple injuries when the roof of a baseball
dugout was ripped off.
7/18/10: What I thought was going to be a brief thundery downpour turned into a severe wind damage event with a 69mph gust clocked at Midway Airport which is near where I live.
7/23/10: Chicago gets 2 beatings in one day. First, severe storms cause damage and then training storms cause massive flooding. See video, pictures and radar Images!
9/22/06:
Chicago barely escapes what could have been a major tragedy when 3
tornadic supercells track over the city. One tornado however, does
touch down on the Lake Michigan shoreline. |
